Family Advocacy / DAVA

Who does this program serve?

The Family Advocacy Program (FAP) is a Department of Defense program dedicated to preventing and addressing child abuse and neglect, domestic violence, and problematic sexual behavior in children and youth. FAP partners with military and civilian agencies to promote healthy family relationships and prevent maltreatment. Services include home visits for parents of young children, access to domestic violence victim advocates, 24/7 domestic violence hotline, counseling services, and educational programs.

Items Family Advocacy / DAVA can put to good use:

Domestic violence is never an easy topic to discuss. However, just like in the community, it sometimes occurs in military families as well. And they do not have a mom, or sister, or possibly even a friend near by to ask for assistance or a safe place to stay for a night. Below are some suggestions of how the community can assist with specific things for this difficult situation:

  • Cell phones
  • Ring cameras
  • Hotel stays
  • DAVA room funding - $109 per night
  • Emergency contacts needed
  • Pantry items
  • Furniture
  • Attorney services
  • Clothing for court appointments
  • Safe place for a night / Safe House
  • Gas Cards
  • Auto Shop – identify trackers on vehicles
  • Gift cards for hot meals
  • Drop in Day Cares
